Great artical! I've heard this adage so many times and never understood the reasoning. I'm so much more likely to follow a rule when I understand the reasoning behind it.

Does anyone know where I could find a mixing workshop in the NYC area? I've tried googling to no avail.

Another thing about narrow boosts: jamming a lot of sound from one narrow little frequency range into your ears will tire them out pretty darn quickly, and can even be kind of painful.
