It also made me really want to buy a Sennheiser MD 421. And my buddy has one of those Shure beta something or other kick drum mics, which I'm thinking might sound nice and thick for a thick clean tone or a real heavy overdrive. I will report back with the results. I'm only surprised they didn't mention using a condenser, I've been pleased with the results from an AT 3035 and an Oktava MK219 (pretty much not that great for much else except micing low frequency sounds like kick drum or floor tom, bass amp) on the guitar cab (padded at -10db, mind you) This helped me out the other night when I was sauced.
