It’s not mentioned on the site, but someone in a thread on PSW where I discovered this (that was well over a year ago) said that the mic was in omni mode. Given the basic idea of how this mic position works, that makes sense to me.

Here’s a simple single-mic technique that I think sounds pretty darn good, though you need a nice kit and good drummer for it to work well:

Eddie Ciletti demonstrates the “crotch position” mic technique. ;-) As a bonus, the mic was run through six different preamps, as a way to audition them.
